Prepping For A New Semester

Give it up for new semester stings. It’s the weekend before class –oi. Wrinkling my nose as we speak…I think i’m allergic to school. Ha. Talking about homework makes me want to reach for Tylenol, despite the fact that I never take pain relievers, like ever.

Ranting aside, new semesters sting like bees, creeping up slightly, only to shake our world for a quick sting. New semesters are like pending nightmares.

The overwhelming-ness that is:

  • buying textbooks
  • confusing class schedules
  • and recollecting the life we dramatically dropped weeks ago

…they give a whole new meaning to the catchprase: “I can’t even.”

Sure we get to reunite with college pals, but thinking about your syllabus as it burns a hole through your brain…man, talk about major hiccups.

Here’s how I enter the semester with eeeeeeeeease.

1. Chill Kid || Head to the nearest coffee shop and simmer the stress. Know that everything will come to pass. Chant those mantras if need be.

2. Pack a Snack || I always carry my favorite granola bar the weekend before the first day. Bring them to functions, anywhere really. The taste of familiarity makes me feel all the better.
3. Netflix || Sit back and relax. Soak up the lazy for what it’s worth. If you know Monday’s gonna be a doozie, why not bingewatch? Personally, I never have time for Netflix, so now is the perfect time.
4. Busy Boy || In the midst of crazy, pick your perky-self up and run errands. Keep busy. Whether it’s a little retail therapy, DYI’s, or hitting the gym, hustling takes my mind off of school.
5. Plan the Outfit || I typically plan the first day outfit right when I drop the bags (crazy, I know). I’m not one to overdress (like ever), but the first day is the way to go. Analyze it, strategize it, make it worth their while!
6. Shine the Social || Mingle, mingle, mingle. Non-stop mingle. Play catch-up with friends; heck, talk to random students and make connections!! Go and socialize.

Don’t let the pending academic stress tear you down. It’ll be okay. Let this weekend bring you joy.
